How to update Joomla extensions
Updating the website’s software is a crucial task. This applies to CMS Joomla and all Joomla extensions installed on your website. Updates are essential, they can be necessary because of security reasons, can fix existing bugs or give you the possibility to use the latest extension version with the most recent features added.
We would like now to walk you through the steps for updating an example Joomla extension. The Joomla extensions update process usually does not require special efforts.
Follow the detailed instructions in few steps listed below. See how to update the Joomla extension:
- Log into your Joomla admin panel
- Go to Extensions -> Manage
Choose the Update link in the left column. You should see a list of all extensions that have a new version available. Click a check field next to the plugin name and hit the Update button at the top left.
The chosen extension should be updated now. You should see a message like: “Updating component was successful.”
There may not always be updates available. If there are, you will see a list of them on the screen.
You should know that not all Joomla extensions can be updated through the Joomla Extension Manager. Don’t forget to check regularly the official websites of the extensions installed on your website. Stay up to date with the latest versions - update Joomla extensions regularly!
If the update is not possible in the manner specified earlier, you must manually upload the latest package of the extension:
- Log into your Joomla admin panel.
- Go to Extensions -> Manage
- Go to Upload Package File” option.
- Choose the extensions package file from your disk.
- Click “Upload and Install” button.
